National Highways are responsible for maintaining the CCTV cameras on the motorways of England. Welsh Government are responsible for maintaining the CCTV cameras on the motorways of Wales and Traffic Scotland Control Centre are responsible for maintaining the CCTV cameras on the motorways of Scotland.
From time to time you may see a camera displaying a "Camera in operational use" message. This message occurs when an Agency or Force take manual control of the camera. This is to avoid images of incidents being available to the public and also to prevent identifiable marks (such as vehicle registrations) from being shown during the time of an incident. In some instances a number of cameras may be taken offline near the scene of an incident.
